BABIES Portrait Planning

Don't forget to manicure hands & nails, think about accessories and dress from head-to-toe

What to Wear: Maternity Sessions

Maternity sessions are all about showing off and accentuating your beautiful baby bump. We recommend scheduling your maternity session around 30-36 weeks, when your bump is perfectly round.

Coordination is key. Solid colors photograph best. Try to avoid busy prints or patterns, unless they are a big part of your personality. If you wear a pattern, keep everyone else in the same color palette with solid colors.

Mom to Be:

Look for formfitting fabrics that hug and drape your body and help accentuate your bump. Denim jeans, black yoga pants and leggings are perfect for on bottom. Match with an empire waist blouse, a button up shirt with a high-waisted belt or a non-maternity top. Remember, three quarter sleeves or long sleeves are most flattering. Sweaters, cardigans and jackets are also pieces you can pull from your pre-pregnancy wardrobe. To give you more shape, add a skinny belt over, or under, your outer layers. Form fitting maxi dresses or short dresses with a high gathered waist are also comfortable and chic options.

Dad to Be:

Men should dress in jeans, dark dress bottoms, or khakis. Coordinate his look to complement your own. A solid dress shirt with a tie to add a pop of color (pink, blue, etc.), or a casual white or black t-shirt are all good options.

Last Minute Reminders:

Make sure to dress from head-to-toe. The wrong choice of shoes can break an outfit. And don’t forget socks! Black socks are best for men. Remember your wedding bands and engagement rings. Hands will be seen in many of the maternity photographs. Make sure nails are manicured and hands are moisturized. Lastly, bring personal items: gifts you’ve received from loved ones, keepsakes from the nursery, teeny tiny baby shoes, sonograms, etc, to help personalize your portraits.
